The United States Constitution Guarantees that every person is presumed innocent. We take the presumption of innocence very seriously. We presume that our clients are all innocent of all of the criminal charges brought against them. Because of this philosophy we are always trying to get our client’s criminal cases dismissed. Dismissals may come in several ways. Sometimes we will try to persuade a prosecutor to dismiss our client’s criminal charges by showing proof on our client’s innocence. However, if we need to take a case to trial, we are always prepared. Laredo Criminal Defense Lawyer Post: Roberto Balli Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization

In January 2013, Roberto Balli was certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. The Texas Board of Legal Specialization awards a Board Certification in Criminal Law only to qualified licensed Texas attorneys. Attorneys must have practiced law in Texas for at least 5 years and must demonstrate that they have participated in a certain number of Criminal Trials and Criminal Appeals in State and Federal Courts. The lawyers must also demonstrate completion of a certain number of course hours in approved criminal law continuing education. The attorneys must then pass a comprehensive exam in Criminal Law that includes Texas Criminal Law, Federal Criminal Law, Texas Criminal Appellate Law, Federal Criminal Appellate Law, and Criminal Constitutional Law.

United States Border Patrol Checkpoint Cases

Many criminal cases in South Texas begin with an arrest at a Border Patrol Checkpoint.  Criminal Defense Lawyer Roberto Balli handles many “Checkpoint” cases.  Most Border Patrol Checkpoint cases involve drug smuggling or the smuggling of or transporting of undocumented aliens.

There are many Border Patrol Checkpoints in South Texas.  The Laredo Checkpoint, Freer Checkpoint, Falfurrias Checkpoint, Sarita Checkpoint, Hebbronville Checkpoint, and Eagle Pass-Carrizo Springs Border Patrol Checkpoints are the most well travelled Border Patrol Checkpoints in South Texas.

Many Border Patrol Checkpoint cases involve the smuggling of drugs or the smuggling or transporting of undocumented aliens. When a person is arrested at a check point for alien smuggling, the charges will be for federal crimes and will be prosecuted in a United States Court.  For alien smuggling charges originating at the Laredo Checkpoint, the Eagle Pass-Carrizo Springs Border Patrol Checkpoint, or the Freer Checkpoint, the cases are prosecuted in Laredo, Texas.  For alien smuggling charges originating at the Falfurrias Checkpoint, the Sarita Checkpoint, or the Hebbronville Checkpoint, the cases are prosecuted in the United States Court in Corpus Christi, Texas.
